Registration and requirements for the six month Certificate Course in Paediatric Palliative Care

Here follows information on and requirements for registering for the six month certificate coures in Paediatric Palliative Care.

 

This course is of 6 month duration and includes one week in class (i.e. attendance at the Introduction to Paediatric Palliative Care Course) after which the remaining 5½ months will be for completion of the following:

 The submission of:

  • An Ethics assignment
  • A Communication assignment
  • 3x Reflective case assessments
  • A log of 10 patients
  • 5x Multi-source feedback from your colleagues (and supervisor)
  •  5 x Patient/Family satisfaction interviews
  • A minimum of 2 days with an approved supervisor, during which time they will need to do 2 long case studies which they will present to the supervisor for evaluation
  • A multiple choice exam and an OSCE exam requiring a 50% average or more (admittance to the exam is provided all the above has been submitted and found satisfactory).
  • All this will strengthen your understanding of palliative care for children and equip you with improved skills and knowledge.

Once we have received your application we will let you know via email whether your application has been successful.

Partial bursaries may be awarded to students from hospices registered with HPCA.  The bursary will be used to pay registration fees, course content and use of the venue. This will all be finalised with the successful applicants and their hospices before commencement of the 1st day of training . The course will commence on 1 April 2011 through this website.

It should be noted, however, that if the student does not complete the course within 14 months from start, the bursary amount will be payable back to HPCA.
