Statistics supplied by the Kaiser Family Foundation www.kff.org indicate that in 2009 there were 2,500,000 children living with HIV.  South Africa is second only to Nigeria in the number of children infected with this disease. The countries in Sub Saharan Africa with the greatest number of children living with HIV are as follows:
