What the Fund will Support
The fund will support nurses’ education and training in a palliative care over a period of two years. It is expected that with the current level of funding available, a total of 11 nurses will benefit. The fund will cover training and related travel costs (within Africa) at various levels up to a maximum of USD 4,000 per person.
Such training programmes will include:
- Distance Learning Diploma
- Contribution to degree or masters training in palliative care
- Palliative care initiators course
- Nurse prescribers’ training
- Introduction to palliative care training and clinical placements of up to a maximum of two weeks
- One international travel scholarship of up to a maximum funding of USD 2,500. (Preference will be given to those with accepted abstracts.)
- Nurses will also receive support to attend and make presentation to targeted national and international conference to improve their presentation skills in palliative care and give them opportunities to interact with other nurses up to a maximum of US 2,500.
Note: this list is not exhaustive and is presented as an indication of what the fund will cover. Other appropriate training opportunities within Africa for nurses will also be considered for funding.
Application Criteria Applicants must:
- Be a registered nurse residing in Africa and with evidence that they will be able to provide palliative care after training (please provide a letter from head of institution confirming this)
- Currently be providing palliative care and wishing to increase heir skills
- Currently be enrolling/enrolled in training programme at an institution that has a approved curriculum in hospice and palliative care within Africa
- If not enrolled, have a conditional letter of acceptance to attend an approved African institution
- Legibly complete the application form
